Former team in strong pursuit of Sykora?
Could Petr Sykora be the next NHL player to bolt for the KHL this summer?
There’s a chance as sources close to Sykora indicate Metallurg Magnitogorski, Sykora’s former team during the 2004-2005 NHL lockout, have expressed an interest in making a run at Sykora.
We’re hearing Metallurg is prepared to make an offer in the range of 3 years worth $11-$12 million, although at this point, from what we understand an official offer has not been made yet.
Sykora, 32, has only appeared in 6 games during the playoffs and he wants to remain in the NHL but at this stage in his career, Sykora will explore all options.
A likely scenario expected to happen, Sykora will enter free agency and see what’s out there before deciding on playing overseas.
There has also been talk that the KHL’s Avangard Omsk may make a run at Sykora. Sykora and Jaromir Jagr are close friends.
In Mid-February, Sykora turned down a two year deal from the Penguins worth $6.1 million. Sykora and his agent Allan Walsh were seeking a three year deal.
Sykora made $2.5 million this past season.
