The Pittsburgh Penguins and Nick Spaling have avoided arbitration, agreeing to a two year contract worth $4.4 million, the team announced.
The deal has an AAV of $2.2 million.
The Penguins on Tuesday had requested $1.65 million on a one year award for arbitration, while Spaling had requested $2.85 million. The two sides met in the middle.
The Penguins cap space is down to about $4.2 million. The team has been closing in on a new for Brandon Sutter and money has to be allocated for Sutter and a 13th forward.
