Team trying to keep their interest quiet?
The Pittsburgh Penguins have had contact with Jagr’s agent Peter Svoboda within the last 72 hours, sources confirm.
Svoboda reached out to the team late last week and there has been preliminary discussions between the two sides.
For weeks since the World Championships, the Penguins have blatantly denied (publicly) that the team has interest in the future Hall of Famer/Former Penguin great but word right now is that there has been contact.
Chatter going around is that Penguins GM Ray Shero informed Svoboda, they would take the weekend to discuss their options and whether the team saw Jagr as a fit.
However, there has been no indication to this point whether Pittsburgh has pushed forward in their pursuit of Jagr.
Svoboda has been actively engaged in talks with the Detroit Red Wings and Montreal Canadiens. Both teams have been considered the front runners to sign Jagr.
Jagr is expected to make a decision on his NHL future by the NHL draft.
