[hide] Regarded as a key player of the future, 2023 first-round pick Brayden Yager getting traded this summer sure wasn’t one on the bingo card, yet Kyle Dubas in an attempt to accelerate the retool made a seismic top prospect for top prospect swap in trading Yager to the Winnipeg Jets in-exchange for winger Rutger McGroarty. McGroarty who had 52 points in 36 games with Michigan, demanded a trade over the summer and was the 14th overall pick in the 2022 draft. The significance of the deal is McGroarty is regarded as being a year and some change ahead of Yager in his development and is expected to sign with the Penguins today and turn pro. The sense is McGroarty has a verbal agreement from the team he will make the club out of camp which led to the trade going over the finish line and McGroarty giving Pittsburgh a commitment to turn pro now. McGroarty is repped by Sidney Crosby’s agent Pat Brisson. [/hide]
