The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed New Jersey Devils winger Matt D’Agostini to a one year deal (1-way contract), the team announced. The deal is a one year contract worth $550,000.
In 29 games with the St. Louis Blues and New Jersey Devils last season, D’Agostini had 3 goals and 6 points. In 267 NHL games, D’Agostini has 47 goals and 95 points.
D’agostini, 26, has a good skill set and had a career year in 2010-2011 with 21 goals and 46 points in 82 games for the Blues. D’Agostini, though, has struggled ever since. He had 9 goals and 18 points in 55 games for the Blues in 2011-2012 and then traded this year after struggling again this year with St. Louis and his game didn’t take off with the New Jersey Devils.
While D’Agostini has an intriguing skill set, he doesn’t play with any grit, something the Penguins lack on their bottom two lines. D’Agostini is also not a penalty killer. Therefore, this signing doesn’t address a need for the Penguins.
The Penguins now have $64,173,333 committed to 12 forwards, 7 defensemen and 2 goaltenders.
