The Pittsburgh Penguins felt urgency to get a deal done with Pascal Dupuis before he could start talking to teams at midnight and they did, agreeing to a 4 year, $15 million contract with Dupuis.
The deal runs through the 2016-2017 season and Dupuis carries a $3.75 million cap hit. The deal also includes a limited no trade clause.
Dupuis and his agent Allan Walsh deserve a lot of credit for getting this deal from the Penguins. They Held firm the entire time on getting four years and the Penguins finally went from three years to four years.
With Dupuis locked up, the Penguins now have around $4.7 million in cap space.
The Penguins expect to resign Craig Adams prior to July 5 and have an offer on the table to Matt Cooke, though there hasn’t been any movement towards a deal yet.
The team has holes on the third line with Tyler Kennedy traded and Matt Cooke still unsigned.
Two attractive options the Penguins are expected to look into include:
Stars winger Eric Nystrom and Matt Hendricks. Both players have garnered internal discussions from the team, sources say.
