SOUTHPOINTE — Penguins captain Sidney Crosby has moved up from the second power play unit in practice to the first power play unit as he inches closer to returning the lineup.
Crosby again was a full participant in today’s skate and worked the right point on the top power play unit.
Crosby and Kris Letang worked the points with Chris Kunitz – James Neal and Evgeni Malkin down low.
Crosby saw point time in 5-on-4 and 5-on-3 situations. Crosby had been working the point with the second unit in previous practices.
Meanwhile, the use of Kris Letang with the first power play unit was also a strong sign that he’s getting close to receiving clearance to return to the lineup.
Crosby who has been eyeing more practice time is strongly considering a return Thursday night.
Updated 12:20 pm – Crosby took line rushes with Matt Cooke and Tyler Kennedy. Malkin skated with Kunitz and Neal, while Jordan Staal stayed with Steve Sullivan and Pascal Dupuis.
The Penguins fourth line had Tangradi – Adams – Asham and Park.

– Defenseman Paul Martin was a full participant in today’s practice and is expected to play Thursday night.
– Goaltender Brent Johnson did not practice and Brad Thiessen remains the primary backup for now.
