For the third game in a row the Penguins gave up a two goal lead but rallied once again tying the game at 4-4 late in the third then winning in the shootout 2-0 behind goals from Erik Christensen, and Evgeni Malkin. Sidney Crosby was held without a goal for the 9th straight but he played well and almost took the game over late in overtime. The goals will come so i wouldn’t‘ worry about his goal less streak. The main thing is the team was able to get the win against against a bottom dweller team whose record is worse than what they really are. Marc-Andre Fleury did not have his best game but he was exceptional in the overtime and shootout. What a save he made 10 seconds into overtime on Martin Havlat. It’s becoming a regularity watching Fleury take over a game in overtime.
Give credit to Michel Therrien for putting Malkin up with Sidney’s line late in third. Every time they were out their they were making plays happen and the switch eventually led to Malkin tying the game at 4-4. The more i watch Jordan Staal i become more impressed with him as a player. You can see the confidence he has in himself right now. The first months of the season he was hesitant to display his skills but now instead cycling the puck down low, he is going to the net trying to beat the defenseman 1 on 1. Can’t remember if it was in the 1st or 3rd period but Staal came down the right side blew past Keith and drew a hooking penalty. A month ago he is stopping waiting for a trailer. Michel Ouellet scored a goalscorers goal in the 2nd period. The msg boards love to rip him on regular basis but he is doing a exceptional job on the second line and as long as Michel Therrien is behind the bench Ouellet will be around. Quick stat Ouellet has the same amount of goals 13 as Alex Kovalev and is making 4 million less than Kovalev.
