The Pittsburgh Pirates have reached an agreement with shortstop Clint Barmes and the deal will become official when the Pirates clear a roster spot on their 40-man roster.
Barmes and the Pirates reached an agreement this evening on a 2 year deal that will be worth just north of $10.25 million
Once the deal becomes official, Barmes will be the Pirates highest paid player on the team, for now…..The team has a one year offer on the table to first baseman Derrek Lee, exceeding $6 million per season. The Pirates have been in discussions with Lee’s agent Casey Close since September but Close has made it known to the Pirates that Lee is waiting for the first base market to develop.
