There are mixed opinions about Kang from just about everyone inside the game. Some feel he has no plus tools to translate to the majors, while others feel he has the upside to be regular starting player and pop 20 home runs. There was some surprise that the winning bid for Kang ended up only being $5 million.
Keith Law is among those who is high on Kang and ranked him as the 15th best free agent at the start of free agency.
Law wrote at the time: “I see a swing that will generate legit plus power even once he leaves his hitter-friendly home park in the Yangcheon District of Seoul.”
