Top prospect Gerrit Cole, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2011 MLB draft, has been promoted to Double-A Altoona and will make his pitching debut with Altoona on Wednesday, June 20.
Cole went 5-1 in 13 starts for Class-A Bradenton, striking out 69 batters in 67 innings and walking just 21 batters. The 22 year old posted a 2.55 ERA and held opposing batters to a .217 average.
Meanwhile, Jameson Taillon (3-6, 4.52 ERA) isn’t quite ready for a promotion. Taillon has struggled mightily of late, giving up 28 runs in his last 6 starts. Taillon gave up 8 earned runs in his last outing on June 13.
