LATEST PIRATES TRADE DEADLINE CHATTER (UPDATED)
4:40 p.m. NO MOVES FOR PIRATES TODAY
Pirates GM Neal Huntington confirms the Pirates have made NO trades today. “We felt that the right move was no move,” Huntington said, claiming the Pirates “were aggressive” on many different fronts.
4:15 p.m. NO DEAL FOR ZOBRIST
15 minutes since the deadline ended and still no confirmation that the Pirates have acquired Zobrist and in fact there was no deal for Zobrist as there are denials coming from the Pirates organization. ESPN’s Buster Olney said on air near the end of ESPN’s Trade Deadline special telecast the Pirates had acquired Zobrist and even put up a graphic with the Pirates acquiring Zobrist, so someone at ESPN got duped.
4:00 p.m. PIRATES ACQUIRE ZOBRIST?
Pirates acquire position player Ben Zobrist from the Tampa Bay Rays, according to ESPN on their telecast. Zobrist, 33, is hitting .271 with 9 home runs, 31 RBI. No confirmation from the team at this point.
3:50 p.m. TIGERS GET PRICE
The Detroit Tigers have won the David Price sweepstakes, per Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports. The deal is expected to be a three team trade and word coming out of the Pirates organization, they are not apart of the deal in any way.
3:45 p.m. RAYS TALKING 3-TEAM TRADE FOR PRICE
David Price is on the move and likely to be apart of a three team trade. Likely Detroit.
2:30 p.m. RAYS CLOSE TO TRADING DAVID PRICE
The Tampa Bay Rays are close to trading David Price, Jayson Stark reports. All indications are the Pirates are a player for Price along with the Tigers, Mariners and maybe Cardinals.
1:45 p.m. – PRICE ON THE MOVE?
With just over two hours left until trade deadline, there is growing momentum that David Price will be traded today. The Mariners, Tigers, Pirates are among the teams believed to be in the mix. Buzz throughout the industry has been the Pirates would make a serious run at Price today. The Dodgers have long been regarded as a likely landing spot, however, they have reportedly backed out of chasing a front liner starter.
1:15 p.m. Andrew Miller headed to Tigers?
Momentum has died down in recent days of the Pirates being a likely landing spot for Red Sox reliever Andrew Miller, someone they coveted, and Jon Morosi of Fox Sports reports the Tigers and Red Sox are getting close on a deal for Miller. Word is the Pirates has been considered too high for the Pirates.
12:35 p.m. CARDINALS ACQUIRE JOHN LACKEY
The St. Louis Cardinals have acquired John Lackey, Jon Heyman of
CBS Sports reports. The Cardinals have now added Justin Masterson and Lackey to bolster their rotation. (Updated: 12:45 p.m.)

12:27 p.m. LACKEY CLOSE TO BEING TRADED
Red Sox starter John Lackey is on the move and is close to being traded to the Dodgers or Cardinals, according to Gordon Edes of ESPN.
12:15 p.m. TRADE ACTION INTENSIFYING ON PRICE
Jon Morosi of Fox Sports reports the chances of David Price getting traded has increased. The Rays scouted the Pirates, Tigers farm systems heavily this week. There is a belief inside the industry the Pirates will make one legitimate run at Price.
12:00 p.m. PIRATES INQUIRE ABOUT BONIFACIO
According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Pirates are among the teams looking at utility player Emilio Bonifacio. Bonifacio, 29, is hitting .279 with 2 home runs and 18 RBI. Switch hitter is batting .408 vs left handed pitching this season and can play all over the lineup from second base, shortstop, third base, centerfield. Bonifacio is making $3.5 million this season and is a free agent this winter. The Pirates are also believed to be interested in Cubs lefty reliever Wesley Wright.
