Bradley emerging as top candidate
Pitt’s coaching search is in full swing and the school has conducted three interviews with candidates, including two that were conducted in person today.
The team has also spoken with former Florida defensive coordinator Teryl Austin but an official interview hasn’t been conducted to this point. Austin is not considered a serious candidate.
Officials conducted a phone interview with Tulsa’s Todd Graham early Tuesday afternoon, who is one of the school’s top choices and a candidate from the previous search.
The school has a pretty strong background on Graham due to him being in the mix from the previous search and there has been contact with Graham’s reps since Sunday morning. Graham though has not interviewed in person to this point. The sense is Graham will stay in Tulsa.
Meanwhile, Sal Sunseri interviewed this morning at an undisclosed location on the Pitt campus.
Penn State’s Tom Bradley is said to have interviewed with the school just after 2:00 p.m today this afternoon. Reportedly Bradley was expected to interview with chancellor Mark Nordenberg and not athletic director Steve Pederson. However, that notion has been refuted.
Graham is said to be Pederson’s top choice but there are some complications in luring him to Pitt. The school has been zeroing in on Graham and Bradley in the past 24 hours.
Bradley is not Pederson’s choice by any means but Pederson remains actively involved in the search.
Sunseri is the linebackers coach for Alabama and his son Tino was Pitt’s starting quarterback in 2010. He is considered more of a plan C or D candidate.
Pitt opted against interviewing assistant coaches during their first coaching search that landed Mike Haywood.
