— The Pirates (32-33) got an outstanding pitching performance from Paul Maholm and once again moved a game from .500.
Maholm (3-7) pitched seven shutout innings and Brandon Wood (2) homered, leading the Pirates to a 3-1 victory over the New York Mets on Monday night at PNC park.
Maholm who won for just the second time since April 25th, allowed three hits, walking two and struck out four.
Closer Joel Hanrahan continues to pitch lights out and tossed a perfect ninth for his 17th save on the season. Hanrahan is 17 for 17 in save opportunities.
Mets starter Mike Pelfrey (3-5) was also strong, giving up two runs and four hits in seven innings.
Neil Walker had 2 RBI’s in victory.
Andrew McCutchen did not start but extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a pinch hit single.
