Updated: Steelers intend to sign Burress if he passes physical, workout goes well
The Pittsburgh Steelers seeking wide receiver help, are looking to a familiar name.
Former Steelers 1st round pick Plaxico Burress is scheduled to meet with Steelers officials in the next 24 hours and take a physical, ESPN reports. Burress is expected to workout with the team and could be signed as early as Tuesday. An individual with knowledge of the situation tells Inside Pittsburgh Sports that Burress is en route to Pittsburgh this evening.
The Steelers last summer offered Burress a two year deal but he opted for a one year deal with the New York Jets worth $3.3 million. Burress had 45 receptions and 8 touchdowns for the Jets. Burress has remained unsigned mostly because of financial demands.
The Steelers are expecting to be without Antonio Brown and Jerricho Cotchery this Sunday vs Cleveland.
Updated: 6:20 p.m. Strong indications are that the Steelers have full intentions to sign Burress by Tuesday morning, assuming he passes a physical. An NFL source says the plan is for Burress is meet with Steelers officials, coaches tonight and take a physical in the morning where he will also workout for the team. He could be signed by late morning if all goes well.
