Winger Michael Bunting [hide] had emergency surgery Wednesday to remove his appendix and will be out for the next little while. The Penguins do not have a timeline on how long Bunting will be out Bunting, 29, has 14 goals and 15 assists on the season in 58 games. After 19 points in 21 games last season with Pittsburgh and a major part of a late season surge, Bunting has had an up and down second season with the Penguins though, his goal #’s this season were at near last years 19 goal pace. Bunting went 13 games to open the 2024-2025 season without a goal, including a healthy scratch in October, and rebounded with very strong play in November/December/Early part of January, totaling 14 goals in a 36 game span but prior to Wednesday’s surgery, Bunting had gone 10 games without a goal (1 goal in his previous 16 games). The surgery eliminates the likelihood of a trade prior to the deadline as Pittsburgh was listening to trade inquiries for Bunting who will be entering the last year of his contract next season.
