Scouts believe Hanowski was a steal in the third round
Pittsburgh Penguins third round pick Ben Hanowski had a prolific high school career netting 73 goals and 135 points (73-62-135) in 31 games, this season, including 14 hat tricks and 10 games with six-or-more points.
Hanowski finished his career with 405 points (196-209-405) and will attend St. Cloud University next season.
At 6-2, 200 lbs, Hanowski fits the mold of the type of wingers Pittsburgh is looking to build around.
What Pittsburgh believes that sets Hanowski apart from others is his goal scoring ability. One thing you can’t teach is natural goal scoring ability and Hanowski has that.
Hanowski has very good hands around the net and is also an extemely good passer.
His goal scoring ability and puck skills have drawn comparisons to Tomas Vanek.
The biggest knock on Hanowski’s game is the fact that he doesn’t have breakaway speed. It’s an area of Hanowski’s game that he is determined to improve when he attends St. Cloud University this fall.
Hanowski joins Eric Tangradi, Nick Johnson and Luca Caputi as wingers in the Penguins system who have power forward potential in the NHL.
Other than Eric Tangradi, Hanowski has the highest ceiling of potential top-6 forwards in the Penguins system.
