The Penguins acquisition of center Mike Zigomanis is clearly a depth move. Zigomanis, 27, split the 2007-08 season between the Phoenix Coyotes and the San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League (AHL). The right-handed shooter appeared in 33 games for the Coyotes, recording three points (two goals, one assist) and six penalty minutes. Zigomanis was brought in because of his face-off ability and he gives the Penguins another option which is a good thing. Zigomanis has struggled to stay in the NHL. People I’ve talked to don’t expect him to be a regular. He will likely bounce in and out of the lineup and split time between WBS and Pittsburgh. Fans like to over-rate players their team acquires and while Zigomanis addresses a need, I would lower expectations. The Penguins hit the ice at 11:00 a.m. tomorrow morning . I will have a update on the lines shortly after.
