- Kevin Colbert announced today that the Steelers have re-signed running back Veron Haynes. The move doesn’t really make sense since there are 3 backs in front of Haynes but there has been speculation Colbert is not a big fan of Najeh Davinport. Stay tuned
- If the Penguins are able to sign Mark Recchi and Gary Roberts, it really puts Eric Christensen in a rock and hard place. Christensen the teams shootout ace, has to play on a top 2 line to be successful but whether there’s a spot for him is in doubt. Crosby, Malkin, Staal, Roberts or Recchi, Ouellet and a mystery top 6 forward via free agency or trade are the likely candidates to fill out the top 2 lines. Christensen would be left out again and the Penguins have to make a decision on him because having him on the 4th line does not help the team My scenario: Resign Roberts, let Recchi walk via free agency. Frees up a spot for Christensen.
- For the first time in about 20 years Post Gazette columnist Bob Smizik wrote a great column last week about the Pirates lack of commitment towards winning. A 5th grader could have come up with that title but let’s give credit to bozo the clown for actually writing something that doesn’t pertain to the Pirates motto: “This is the year”. I will start rooting for the Pirates if they draft and sign catcher Matt Wieters with this weeks #4 pick in the MLB draft. Wieters is the top rated positional player on the board and there is word he may fall all the way to #4 where the Bucco’s are picking. Wieters is compared to the Twins Joe Mauer except Wieters possess Mike Piazza power. Reason not to get too excited: Wieters is a Scott Boras client and will command at least a 6 million dollar signing bonus.
