Similar to the Eric Tangradi situation a few years ago, the Penguins officially re-assigned Zach Sill, Andrew Ebbett and Taylor Chorney to Wheeling of the ECHL.
The moves are nothing more than a paper move for cap reasons. All three are expected to be back with the team for Thursday’s game vs Anaheim.
What the Penguins are doing is getting as close to the $69 million cap limit they can, so they can maximize their savings for when they place Beau Bennett on LTIR.
Sill and Ebbett each skated on the fourth line with Craig Adams today, along with Oskar Sundqvist who was returned to Sweden within the last hour.
Chroney will open the season as the Penguins seventh defenseman and provide depth until Robert Bortuzzo is healthy.
