TIDBITS OUT OF MIKE TOMLIN’S PRESSER
— Mike Tomlin, as expected, talked the Cleveland Browns up like they are the Denver Broncos. The standings still say they are 4-6.
— One key matchup Sunday is going to Antonio Brown vs Joe Haden. “He’s playing as good as anybody we’ve seen at the cornerback position,” Tomlin said of Haden.
— Tomlin said a focus on reviewing the tape on Monday was about the poor second quarter.
— Tomlin was peppered with no huddle questions in the first five minutes of questioning. Tomlin cited Suh and Farley being big dominant guys as a reason for going no huddle to catch the Lions off guard. “It was working for us, why change,” Tomlin said of sticking with the no huddle throughout the game. “Why play not to lose. We play to win.”
— Questions remain whether the Steelers will stick with the no huddle as Tomlin has always come off as believing that it’s something you can’t use prominently over multiple games. “Right set of circumstances,” Tomlin said. “Not going to be very multiple. Limited communication with the staff. Gotta be very cautious of employing it, how much?.”
— On the injury front, Ramon Foster, LaMarr Woodley and Brett Keisel all have a legitimate chance of returning vs the Browns.
— Tomlin said he is encouraged by Emmanuel Sanders who suffered a foot injury in Sunday’s game. Tomlin anticipates Sanders playing.
— Tomlin was clearly agitated in answering questions related to comments from Ben Roethlisberger’s radio show which airs every Tuesday on 937 The Fan. “I don’t have enough hours in my day to respond to player radio {shows},” Tomlin said.
— Ben Roethlisberger was sacked just one time vs the Lions and Tomlin said the offensive line as a whole played “above the line”. Tomlin pointed out Guy Whimper’s play on multiple occasions. Whimper a tackle, started at guard.
— Jason Worilds graded out very well vs the Lions and his play is trending up. What’s become clear with Worilds during his career is that he’s more comfortable on the left side. “He has played well, has had some success on the left side,” Tomlin said.
— Mike Tomlin on Jonathan Dwyer who had just one rushing attempt. “He’s proven to be reliable in recent weeks. Good for him and good for us,” Tomlin said.
— Tomlin on leaks inside the organization about Ben Roethlisberger. “I’m not wasting a lot of time investigating. We’ve got legitimate issues.”
