Five Trades around the NHL that almost happened
1. Jay Bouwmeester to Vancouver
Scoop: The Flyers dropped out around 2:30 p.m. after they couldn’t clear enough space. Vancouver became the favorites to land Bouwmeester and it went down to the wire. Florida pulled out of the talks less than 5 minutes before the deadline. A sticking point was a third roster player to be included.
2. Keith Tkachuk to Boston
Scoop: The Bruins and Blues thought they had a deal. According to reports, Tkachuk was called back to the Blues arena and was seen hugging teammates. All signs were Tkachuk was going to Boston but the Bruins bailed out of the deal about an hour prior to the deadline.
3. Chris Neil to Florida
Scoop: RDS.Ca reports the Panthers acquired Neil around 2:30 p.m. The Panthers were beleived to have offered a 2nd round pick and a prospect for Neil. A deal fell apart just before the deadline.
4. Jarkko Ruutu to Pittsburgh
Scoop: The Penguins and Senators exchanged proposal into the afternoon. Sources believed a deal was going to get done. Indications are around 2:00 p.m., the Senators changed their minds and took Ruutu off the market.
5. Travis Moen to Pittsburgh
Scoop: Assistant GM Chuck Fletcher nearly pulled off another trade between the Penguins and Ducks. When the Senators ended talks with the Penguins, Pittsburgh went back to Anaheim about Moen. A source says if the Penguins would have another 10-15 minutes Pittsburgh would have landed Moen. San Jose increased their offer at the 11th hour.
