Contract Talks: Latest on Clark, Gay, Reed & Colon
The Pittsburgh Steelers focus at the NFL combine has shifted to starting safety Ryan Clark who is less than a week away from becoming an unrestricted free agent.
Talks between Omar Khan and Joel Turner, the agent for Ryan Clark, have been on-going this weekend with both sides extensively working to get a deal done.
A source directly involved in talks told me this evening that talks are progressing “ok so far, ” but the source indicated “we have miles to go before we sleep.”
I’m told progress has been made in base pay but a major hurdle has been the amount of guaranteed money. The two sides first exchanged numbers Friday evening.
*Don Henderson the agent for Jeff Reed will meet with Omar Khan on Tuesday as both sides will pick up negotiations on a long-term deal.
*The Steelers have informed Joe Linta, the agent for Willie Colon, that the team will make a first round tender to Colon.
*Exchanged text messages with the agent for William Gay today and they have yet to be informed of whether the Steelers will make a tender to Gay but based on Gay’s post-season interviews with the coaching staff, they are expecting one.
