LATEST STEELERS RUMBLINGS
Are the Steelers a sleeper for OLB Elvis Dumervil who is suddenly a free agent after Friday’s fax machine fiasco?
According to NFL Insider Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun and Scout.com, the Steelers are a team to keep an eye on. “Besides Ravens, another team to keep an eye on with Elvis Dumervil: the Pittsburgh Steelers,” Wilson says. “Both AFC North clubs have interest in Elvis Dumervil, who’s an outside linebacker in 3-4 schemes.”
Dumervil, 29, had 11 sacks and 6 forced fumbles last season and had a career high 17 sacks in 2009. Dumervil was scheduled to make $8 million with the Broncos in 2013, agreeing to a paycut, prior to his agent not faxing the contract to the Broncos in time.
Dumervil is not expected to receive anywhere close to $8 million on the open market but a lot of things would have to go the Steelers way to being able to sign Dumervil.
The Steelers were willing to pay James Harrison around $4.5 million per season in 2013.
