 Steelers to meet with Harrisons agent at the combine

The Pittsburgh Steelers initiated talks with James¬†Harrison’s representatives¬†and the two sides are expected to meet at the combine according to the Tribune-Review. Harrison is believed to be seeking¬†$20 million in guarantees.¬†

The Pittsburgh Steelers have not ruled out re-signing left tackle Marvel Smith. Smith, 30, missed the Steelers final 13 games after having a second back surgery. Steelers are interested in a deal slightly above the league minimum with a lot of incentives. 

The Steelers are expected to meet with Bryant McFadden’s agent Drew Rosenhaus at the scouting combine this week. The two sides have yet to begin discussions on a long-term contract. Free agency begins on February 27th.

A source tells Inside Pittsburgh sports that the Steelers are prepared to make left tackle Max Starks a four year offer prior to free agency. The front office has indicated that Starks is one of the teams priorties. Early indications from last weeks senior bowl is the Steelers are focused on upgrading the interior of their offensive line.    

QB Ben Roethlisberger

Ben Roethlisberger threw for 256 yards and 1 touchdown Р1 INT in Super Bowl XLIII. Roethlisberger drove the Steelers 78 yards with 2:36 reamaining in the fourth quarter including a 6 yard touchdown pass with 35 seconds left to Santontio Holmes to seal the Steelers 6th Super Bowl title.

The 3rd year pro recorded 9 receptions Р131 yds and 1 touchdown in Super Bowl XLIII. Holmes had a final drive for the ages with 4 receptions for 73 yards including a 6 yd touchdown reception with 35 seconds remaining. Holmes established himself as the games next rising star in the playoffs.   

Woodley had six sacks in three playoff games including a forced fumble on the Cardinals last offensive play in Super Bowl XLIII. Woodley could be the steal of the 2007 draft. He has 8 career sacks in 4 playoff games.

Status: (shoulder) Out for season

Mendenhall has been working out at the Steelers facility ( here and there) for the past 5 weeks and is expected to be ready for spring drills. Mendenhall, 20, has a bright future and if healthy will be a big part of the Steelers offense in 09.
