The Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday inked running back Jaylen Warren to a three-year, $17.5 million extension. Warren receives a $5.95 Million signing bonus, taking home over $7 million in 2025 and is scheduled to make $5.05 million in 2026 and $5.15 million in 2027. From the players perspective, this was a genius move by Warren to take the extension. Warren will enter the season as the starter but for how long? Rookie Kaleb Johnson is going to be breathing down his neck and Aaron Rodgers has spoken highly of Kenneth Gainwell of being a third down weapon. A couple down games and Warren could quicky see some reps go by. For Warren he also gets some insurance as he turns 27 in November, and we all know you get 4-5 years from running backs and move on. From the Steelers’ perspective he’s at a nice number for next season as a change of pace 1B option if Johnson eventually becomes the lead dog at the position this season that many expect. It’s a win-win deal for both sides. Pittsburgh came very close to selecting UNC RB Omarion Hampton in Round 1. Now the team thinks they’ve solidified the RB group for the next couple years without spending big draft capital on one.
