1-on-1 interview with Eric Tangradi
I sat down with Eric Tangradi after practice and we touched base on several subjects. I asked Eric if he feels he can be that “Ryan Malone” type of player the Penguins have missed and an interesting topic we spoke about is the impact assistant coach Tony Granato has had on him.
I’ve noticed Granato working with Tangradi on the side during the past couple practices and Tangradi told me Granato has taking him under his wing.
Tangradi on his performance in camp:
“So far i think I’ve done a pretty good job, I’m still pretty nervous about what’s going to happen in the next couple days, ” Tangradi told Inside Pittsburgh Sports. “You know I just try to do the things I do to be effective and I think I’ve showed the coaching staff and the organization that. I just have to keep getting better everyday and hopefully make it past that last cut.
On Penguins needing a front presence guy
“I think they definetly need a net front presence guy, and someone whose really looking to get to the gritty areas, ” Tangradi said. “I think I’m someone who can do those things and just hope and see, play my game, no regrets and leave it all on the line here.”
Granato’s impact on him
“He’s {Tony Granato} staying very positive with me….saying keep getting to that net front and we’re just trying to add pieces to my game, ” Tangradi said. “Step by step, whether it be keeping my stick on the ice at all times, and getting in on the forecheck and causing havoc. He’s really taking me under his wing and trying to get me where I need to be and I appreciate all the help he’s given me.”

On playing with new linemates (Kennedy, Letestu)
“I think I’m going to play the same game I played with Geno and Comrie, Tangradi said. “I think I’m going to have to play a power forward game and those two guys {Kennedy, Letestu} are very gritty as well, but also bring a lot of skills. so I’m not going to change much. If anything I’m trying to be more active off the rush, support those guys and help them around the net.”
