The Pittsburgh Penguins anticipate Beau Bennett being sidelined for several weeks, two sources said Saturday evening and it sounds like Tanner Glass will also be out a while. Head coach Dan Bylsma told reporters in Boston today that Bennett and Glass both don’t have “day to day” injuries.
Word on Saturday was that the team expected to learn on Monday on the exact damage for Bennett and Bylsma confirmed following the morning skate that he could know more about both players after tonight’s game vs the Bruins.
A player who was a huge disappointment last season, Tanner Glass has had a resurgence this season and has become a heart and soul type player on the ice this year. His injury is a blow to a Penguins team that is really lacking some physicality in the bottom-6.
The Penguins will look to beat the Bruins tonight with speed and skill. Pittsburgh used the following four lines in today’s morning skate:
Chris Kunitz – Sidney Crosby – Pascal Dupuis
Jussi Jokinen – Evgeni Malkin – James Neal
Brian Gibbons – Brandon Sutter – Matt D’Agostini/Andrew Ebbett
Zach Sill – Joe Vitale – Craig Adams
Based on the morning skate, I’m told it appears Deryk Engelland will return to the lineup.
Notes: Evgeni Malkin has been named the NHL’s first star of the week. Malkin had one goal and seven assists in four games. Malkin has surged in the NHL points race and has 4 goals and 22 assists in 24 games this season.
