I spoke to the agent for Texas Tech guard Louis Vasquez this morning and the Steelers will host Vasquez for a visit Monday afternoon.
Vasquez had a visit scheduled with the Steelers on April 7th. He arrived in Pittsburgh, met with a Steelers official but found out during the night of his arrival that a close family member had passed away.
Vasquez’s representatives spoke very highly of the Steelers professionalism as the Steelers allowed Vasquez to take the first flight in the morning back home to allow Vasquez to be with his family and friends.
Vasquez will fly back out to Pittsburgh Monday afternoon and meet with the rest of the Steelers staff, see the facility and pick up where he left off
Vasquez will visit the Broncos on Tuesday, Raiders on Wednesday and the Browns on Thursday. Vasquez met with the Eagles on April 3rd.
Vasquez, 6-4 3/4, 335 lbs, has excellent size and bulk and is a very good run blocker. At the combine, the Texas Tech guard lifted the required 225 pounds 39 times, five more than BYU’s Travis Bright and Juan Garcia of Washington.
It was the fifth most reps by an offensive lineman at the combine since 2000.
Vasquez is currently projected as a mid-round pick and the Steelers are high on him.
Upcoming visits
The Steelers will entertain three prospects this week who are currently projected to be 1st-2nd round picks. Among them are
Illinois cornerback Vontae Davis, Wake Forest cornerback Alphonso Smith, and San Jose State defensive end Jarron Gilbert
