Star center Sidney Crosby (groin) missed his second consecutive practice this morning and will likely not play in the Penguins pre-season finale against the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday.
Crosby was at the facility this morning getting treatment and skated on his own for about 15 minutes. Crosby will try to practice with his teammates tomorrow morning. Crosby remains day-to-day.
Defenseman Ben Lovejoy (shoulder) was the only other player to miss today’s practice.
In the battle for the 13th forward spot, there hasn’t been much movement on the
Ryan Bayda front. As of late last night Pittsburgh did not have a deal in place with Bayda. Bayda’s camp was not happy about not playing on Thursday as 6 teams had scouts in attendance.
Pittsburgh is only interested in a two-way deal. We’ll see where this goes over the weekend.
*By the way practice looks today, Chris Conner will get another shot on the top three lines against Detroit. Conner took a few shifts alongside Evgeni Malkin and Ruslan Fedotenko during a few breakout situations.
Jordan Staal replaced Crosby in practice centering Bill Guerin and Chris Kunitz.
A source close to Nate Guenin tells me Guenin has not been informed by the coaching staff that he has won the No.7 defenseman spot yet. Internally Guenin has won the job, barring a waiver wire acquisition.
