Once again, it was close but no cigar for Dave Wannstedt and the Pitt Panthers. Nick Forbes, one of the top linebacker prospects in the country, was considering Pitt but last night pulled the trigger and didn’t pick the Panthers.
While visiting the California Elite Camp, Forbes made a verbal commitment to the California Golden Bears.
Forbes, Frederick (Md.), reportedly was very impressed with the Berkeley campus and the coaching staff. Pitt along with West Virginia and Virginia Tech were other finalists for Forbes.
Forbes is ranked as the nation’s No. 7 outside linebacker and a member of the Rivals250. As a junior, Forbes rushed for 1,075 yards on offense, but racked up 96 tackles, six tackles for a loss and four sacks on defense.

* PITT was highly disappointed in missing out on 3-star recruit QB Bryan Bennett (Encino, Calif.)
Bennett committed to Oregon on Thursday while he was still in Pittsburgh visiting the PITT campus. PITT was in play for Bennett because of Frank Cignetti jr who coveted Bennett for some time.
Will Pitt miss out on one of the country’s top junior tight end prospects in Ben Koyack (Oil City, PA)?
Koyack, 6-5, 230 lbs, is holding offers from West Virginia, Penn State and PITT and indications are

it is very unlikely that PITT will land Koyack. Penn State is the early front runner and Koyack’s visit to West Virginia went very well this morning according to a source on the scene.
The Koyack sweepstakes will likely be a three horse race between Penn State, West Virginia and Ohio State.
Koyack is also holding offers from major schools Florida, NC State and Wisconsin
Notes: Pitt is hosting another prospects weekend at their UPMC Sports Complex and I expect the Panthers to receive a verbal commitment or two. We’ll be at the camp this weekend and have any news for you as soon as it happens.
