STEELERS – TUESDAY
With Jarvis Jones out for at least the next eight weeks and possibly the season, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin called the decision to sign James Harrison, simple and easy.
“We did sign James Harrison. Simple and easy decision,” Tomlin said at his weekly press conference. “We know James, James knows us. He understands our scheme.”
Arthur Moats will start at ROLB vs Tampa Bay but if Harrison proves he’s ready, James is likely be active vs the Buccaneers.
” His level of participation will be determined on his level of execute and participation,” Tomlin said. “Simply going to play it by ear. — “Excited about having James back. Will be fun to watch him work his way back into the group.”
The first question to Tomlin was about Harrison’s domestic violence charges in 2008. “He’s grown a lot as has his lady,” Tomlin said. “I don’t anticipate that being an issue.”
The Steelers will be without two starting linebackers on Sunday and while Jones will be out for at least two months, Shazier could be back in a couple weeks with an MCL sprain.
Sean Spence who was drafted in the 3rd round of the 2012 draft with the idea of him being the Steelers heir apparent to Larry Foote, will start in place of Shazier. Spence has surpassed Vince Williams on the depth chart.
Spence played 35 snaps vs the Panthers, recording 4 tackles.
