Mike Tomlin made it clear during the opening moments of his weekly press conference that he made the call to fire Matt Canada, calling it his decision.

“It was mine and mine alone,” Tomlin said of firing Canada…….

“Did not come to this decision lightly. It is my role to absorb and protect those that i work with. Just rest assured this decision was not taken lightly. Was not easy but I thought it was necessary. This is a results-oriented business. In short, Improvements were not rapid enough or consistent enough to proceed.”

Tomlin spoke at length at being in this job so long, it’s his job absorb everything, and he just knew it was time to move on.

With the firing of Matt Canada, the pressure intensifies on Kenny Pickett who in now 20+ games is nowhere near showing the ability of even being a competent starting NFL quarterback. Pickett’s struggles to read the field, spinning into sacks and failure to attack the middle of the field is among the major downfalls of Pickett as QB1 who the Steelers remain all in. The tape doesn’t lie and Pickett’s disastrous play at QB isn’t all on the offensive coordinator. Yet the head coach at least publicly keeps talking like the QB isn’t the problem, citing again today about Pickett’s ‘work ethic’ off the field……

Tomlin said moving forward there will be no grading on a curve. All he wants to see is more points.

*Staff Overseeing Playcalling Duties/Game Plan

Mike Tomlin said RB coach Eddie Faulkner is the de facto offensive coordinator but will not call plays. Faulkner will be in charge of organizing the game plan, while Mike Sullivan will call the plays during the game, which Tomlin called a natural setting for Sullivan due to his experience.
