Tomlin Week 2 Presser Notes
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin confirmed that Willie Colon had surgery this morning and is probable to go on IR but no decision has been made yet.
“We feel bad for {Willie}, Tomlin said. “Willie going down in two consecutive seasons is a tough blow. Willie is a guy who loves to play football, ” Tomlin said. Tomlin mentioned that the team will help Willie get through an expected tough time for him.
The Steelers will turn to rookie Marcus Gilbert who will take the reins as the team’s starting right tackle. At least for the short-term. “We like his pedigree. He’s a talented guy, ” Tomlin said. “He’s shown he’s not a fish out of water. Not a lot of tape but we do believe he’s talented and has done a nice job with the opportunties he’s been given, ” Tomlin said.
At this point, resigning Flozell Adams is not expected but the Steelers are bringing in a few veterans for workouts, in what Tomlin called “depth options”.
“We’re going to workout a couple of guys today, ” Tomlin said.
Marcus Gilbert at right tackle will be the only change this week on the starting offensive line. Tomlin said that RG Doug Legursky played well enough to remain as the starter.
