Defenseman Derrick Pouliot, the Penguins 2012 1st round pick (8th overall), underwent successful shoulder surgery today, the team announced.
According to the team, expected recovery time for Pouliot is 4-6 months.
Pouliot was recently named the Western Hockey League’s Defenseman of the year. He had 17 goals and 53 assists for the Portland Winterhawks this season.
Pouliot is the Penguins most offensively gifted defenseman in their system. This injury will take him out of the running of winning a spot on the NHL roster in training camp.
