Wednesday’s Notes
- Byron Leftwich took a first step towards returning to the field, participating in Wednesday’s practice. Leftwich threw the ball well and was moving around quite a bit. If his knee responds well, he’s expected to have a heavier work load on Thursday. He remains a possibility to dress against Tennessee.
- Leftwich though is eyeing week 3 as a potential opportunity to get back into the lineup. For now the Steelers are moving forward with Dennis Dixon but I predict Leftwich will be the starter against Tampa Bay.
- How did the Steelers prepare for league’s best running back on Wednesday? Rookie wide receiver Antonio Brown played the role of Titans running back Chris Johnson, lining up at running back with the scout team up against the Steelers No. 1 defensive unit that was missing three regulars.
- Injury Report: Max Starks (ankle), Casey Hampton (hamstring) and Arnaz Battle (knee) did not practice on Wednesday due to injuries. Jason Worilds (shoulder) and Emmanuel Sanders (quad) didn’t make it through practice and were limited. Hines Ward, Aaron Smith and James Farrior were given a veterans day off. Ziggy Hood ran 1st team defensive end and Larry Foote took 1st team reps at linebacker.
