In Week 1, The Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback situation could have the same look among their top three that got torched by the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl XLV.
Today the Steelers have agreed to a new deal with cornerback William Gay who was the team’s 5th round pick in 2007. Gay spent majority of the Steelers 2010 season as the team’s primary nickel back. It’s a role the Steelers are high on Gay.
The Steelers bringing back Gay is a sign that the team is not overly confident on one of their young guys filling the nickel back role, which is so important in today’s game. Gay though will still have to hold off the likes of Keenan Lewis, Crezdon Buter and Curtis Brown. Last season, the Steelers didn’t have many options with Lewis unable to hold off special teammer Anthony Madison who was forced into action as the No. 4 cornerback.
