Predators match offer sheet for Shea Weber

The Nashville Predators have announced that the team has matched the Philadelphia Flyers 14 year, $110 million offer sheet they gave to Predators captain Shea Weber. The official announcement can be read at the Predators official site. The Predators matching is a big blow to the Flyers who have now struck out on Weber, Zach Parise, Ryan Suter and Rick Nash this summer. The Flyers though are unlikely to stay put but there’s no Shea Weber out there on the blueline. Flyers GM Paul Holmgren released a statement on the team’s official twitter feed saying “In tendering an offer sheet to Shea Weber, we were trying to add a top defenseman entering the prime of his career. With Nashville matching our offer, we wish Shea and the Predators all the best.”

Shea Weber agrees to 14 year offer sheet with the Philadelphia Flyers

Nashville Predators defenseman Shea Weber has agreed to a 14 year offer sheet with the Philadelphia Flyers, TSN’s Darren Dreger reports. The deal is worth over $100 million and the Predators have seven days to match! If the Predators don’t match, the addition of the 26 year old Weber will be a huge get for the Flyers, landing one of the NHL’s premier defenseman in the game, if not the best overall defenseman in the game at just age 26. The star defenseman had 19 goals and 49 points last season, amassing a +21 rating. Averaging 26:09 of ice time, the 6-foot-4, 235-pound Weber registered a team-high 177 hits and 140 blocked shots in 2011-2012.
