Gerrit Cole (7-2) appeared on his way to a losing effort Wednesday afternoon but he kept the Pirates in the game as the team broke out with a five-run seventh inning, en route to a 5-2 win over the Miami Marlins today.
Cole improving to 7-2 on the season, tossed seven innings of 2-run ball, allowing 7 hits, while striking out 7 and walking none. Cole is tied with Bartolo Colon and Michael Wacha for the NL lead in wins. The two runs Cole surrendered were on home runs by Justin Bour and Christian Yelich
