Penn State University will be launching a Division-1 Men's Hockey program in the near future. The school will also be adding a D-1 women's hockey program.
Launching a D-1 hockey program has been on the radar of the adminstration for years and it will finally become a reality as the school now has the funding to make it happen.
The school will be building an $80 million dollar arena/facility that will be funded by one donor and will also cover the majority of scholarships for both programs.
An official announcement from the school is expected by the end of the month.
Penn State officials expect the men's hockey coaching positions to be highly coveted as one contact told me "big names" have already inquired.
Officials have done their homework and expect to eventually join the CCHA, entering a conference with the likes of Ohio State, Michigan, and Michigan State.
