The Pittsburgh Pirates have acquired RHP Ernesto Frieri from the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for Jason Grilli, the team announced minutes ago.
It’s a trade of two closers who have collapsed this season. Frieri who officially lost his closers role a few days ago, has a 6.39 ERA to go with 11 saves on the season.
Last season he had 37 saves and a 3.80 ERA.
Frieri, though, is 28 and has great strikeout ability. For a pitcher in Grilli who was eventually going to be DFA, a pretty good return for Huntington.
