The Pittsburgh Pirates today recalled infielder John McDonald from his rehab assignment from Triple-A Indianapolis, reinstated him from the 15-day disabled list and traded him to the Cleveland Indians for a player to be named or cash considerations, the team announced this evening.
McDonald, 38, hit .065 with 1 RBI in 31 at-bats.
The move was made to clear a 40-man roster spot for Gerrit Cole, the 1st overall pick in the 2011 draft. Cole the Pirates No. 1 prospect in their system, will be officially called up Tuesday morning and will make his MLB debut tomorrow night vs the Giants.
