1. Luca Caputi, Age 20
2007, 4th round pick
Notes from Day 1
As one talent evaluator told me months ago, “Luca Caputi will be a great third liner in the NHL”
– Caputi is an above-average fore-checker and for a young player has a great positioning
– His stick is always in the right position and that was evident during the course of the drills on Tuesday
– On day one though, it was mixed results for Caputi
– His sub-par skating remains an issue, he hasn’t made much progress in that area
– Struggled accelerating, following his stops and starts
– Shot the puck very well in around net, coverted a one-timer goal on a 2-on-1 with Dustin Jeffrey
– His hands are suspect, a lot of pucks were bouncing off his stick, when a pass was somewhat off the mark
2. Casey Pierro-Zabotel, Age 20
2007, 3rd round pick
*Notes from day 1
– Didn’t have a good first day
– Struggled with his speed
– Looked a step slow in moving the puck
– Was focusing on others, will have a more indepth report on him from day 2
3. Ben Hanowski, Age 18
2009, 3rd round choice
*Notes from today’s skate
– Like Simeon Despres, he appeared over-whelmed at times
– Has very good puck skills
– Appears to be 10-12 lbs lighter than what he is listed (198 lbs)
– Speed must improve
