The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed forward Casey Pierro-Zabotel (6-2, 210 lbs) to a three-year entry-level contract through 2012, the team announced today.
Zabotel, 20, led the Vancouver Giants of the Western Hockey League with 115 points (36 goals, 79 assists) along with a plus-62 rating in 72 contests this season. He was awarded the Bob Clarke Trophy as the leading scorer in the WHL with 115 points and was named the WHL Western Conference Player of the Year.
Zabotel is regarded as the Penguins #5 prospect and will report to Wilkes Barre.
Zabotel is one of the few prospects in the Penguins system that has top 6 forward potential, but jury isn’t out on Zabotel just yet. He has dominated in the WHL against younger players and will begin the 2009-2010 season in Wilkes Barre.
