Penguins lead series, 2-1
Updated: 11:54 a.m. – The Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled defenseman Deryk Engelland from Wilkes Barre/Scranton. The recall of Engelland gives the Penguins 8 healthy defensemen as Jordan Leopold remains in Pittsburgh due to a concussion.
Winger Ruslan Fedotenko was the odd-man out during the Penguins morning skate and will be a healthy scratch for the third straight game.
Jay McKee will appear in his second straight game and Brent Johnson appear primed to backup Marc Andre Fleury tonight.
Senators Morning Skate Notes
Down 2-1 in the series, the Ottawa Senators will make lineup changes in game 4 as the Senators look to even up the series.
Winger Jonathan Cheechoo will make his playoff debut tonight. Cheechoo skated on the Senators 4th line with Zack Smith and Jesse Winchester during the Senators morning skate. Cheechoo will replace Ryan Shannon in the lineup.
The former 50 goal scorer was a complete disappointment for the Senators during the regular season, scoring just five goals in 61 games before being re-assigned to the Binghamton Senators. Cheechoo had 8 goals in 25 games for Binghamton and was added to the Senators playoff roster to open up the series.
Cheechoo does have 3 points in 4 games against Pittsburgh this season.
Meanwhile, Daniel Alfredsson did not participate in the Senators morning skate but will play tonight. Shean Donovan replaced Alfredsson on the Senators top line with Peter Regin and Jason Spezza during the Sens morning skate.
Donovan, however, will not play. Cheechoo will be the only lineup change by head coach Cory Clouston.
Alfredsson who has a bum right shoulder, called tonight’s game the most important game of the Senators season during a press conference on Monday.
Alfredsson and Jason Spezza have zero goals in the series as the Senators have struggled to generate offense in 5-on-5 play.
