2006 1st round pick Brad Lincoln (4-3, 4.27 ERA) threw seven scoreless innings today for Triple-A Indianapolis and is making a push for a possible promotion back to the major leagues in the coming weeks.
Lincoln is now 4-0 with a 1.80 ERA and 23 strikeouts in his last four starts. He has surrendered 5 runs in 25 innings during that span.
“We wanted to see Brad to continue to refine his mechanics, pitches and command, ” Huntington told Inside Pittsburgh Sports tonight on specifics the team has been looking to see from Brad before he is brought back up to the big leagues.
“He has been solid his last handful of starts, ” Huntington said.
Lincoln’s command has been excellent walking just two batters in his last 21 1/3 innings. Lincoln has 42 strikeouts and 8 walks in 46 1/3 innings.
Huntington would not tip his hand on if a callup is imminent and did not give Lincoln a glowing endorsement on his latest success.
The sense I got is that the Pirates want to see more from Lincoln and would like him make at least a few more starts in Triple-A.
