Jaromir Jagr’s agent Peter Svoboda believes that the Penguins interest in Jagr is genuine and Svoboda expects to learn later today from GM Ray Shero whether the Penguins intend to push forward on a possible deal.
The Penguins are doing some serious homework on Jagr in the past 72 hours and Jagr has had discussions with key members of the Penguins brass and a phone call is expected to happen between Jagr and his idol Mario Lemieux today.
Any deal for Jagr is expected to be well under $3 million per season and financials is not expected to be an issue. However, to this point everything has just been a feeling out process from Penguins side of things. The team as of this morning does not have an offer on the table but one could be coming before the end of today.
There is no indication that Jagr is using Pittsburgh to get the Red Wings to increase his asking price as any deal with Detroit is also expected to be under $3 million per season.
Detroit over the weekend is said to have made it known to Jagr’s agent that they intend to be big spenders on defense this off-season.
