The struggling Philadelphia Flyers have traded Max Talbot to the Colorado Avalanche for Steve Downie. Talbot was signed to a five year deal in the summer of 2011 by Philadelphia and the Flyers brought Talbot on board to change the culture of the team.
Talbot had a career year in 2011-2012, his first with the Flyers, collecting 19 goals and 34 points but has struggled to match those numbers since. He has 1 goal and 1 assist in seven games this season. The Flyers have been dangling Talbot since the summer. Talbot has two years left on his deal with a cap hit of $1.8 million.
From an on-ice standpoint, the Flyers are getting the better player in Downie who plays the type of style the Flyers like and adds a bit more offensively than Talbot, though, Downie has just one 20 goal season. Downie has 1 goal and 6 assists on the season. He is a free agent at seasons end.
