The Pitt Panthers have a scholarship offer on the table for A.J. Fenton and for sometime the Panthers were believed to be the favorites to land the talented the running back/linebacker. Pitt is believed to be recruiting Fenton as a linebacker but they haven’t ruled out using him as a running back if he commits to Pitt. Fenton was in Wisconsin for an official visit this weekend and could be leaning towards going to Wisconsin, according to reports out of Wisconsin.
Fenton is scheduled to make an official visit to Pitt in late September. Sources believe it‚Äôs down to Pitt and Wisconsin but the Badgers are the clubhouse leader and Fenton’s official visit to Pitt later this month may just be a courtesy visit. Fenton also made an unofficial visit to West Virginia but indications are he’s no longer considering WVU.
Wide Receiver Devon Smith was expected to make an official visit to Penn State on Saturday but due to weather issues he wasn’t able to make the trip. Penn State is recruiting Smith mainly as a kick return specialist. Penn State also hopes to land a 2010 recruit. Wide receiver Alex Kenney was in attendence Saturday afternoon. Indications are the visit went very well and Penn State is the current front runner to land Kenney.
West Virginia has made LaMarcus Joyner (Miami,FL) a scholarship offer. Joyner is one of the top rated cornerbacks out of the 2010 class. West Virginia has been recruiting the Miami area very hard and have made running back LaMarr Miller a scholarship offer
Local Recruiting Update
Linebacker William Phillipy (Trinity High School) is being recruited by Pitt and Penn State. Penn State and Boston College are the front runners.
Running back Brett Gunn (Kiski Area High School) is a talented running back that has drawn interest from Pitt and West Virginia. He’s a shifty player that could have a impact as a kick returner in his freshman year. UConn is also recruiting Gunn.
Pitt and Penn State headline the list of schools pursuing defensive end Clint Miller (Parkland High School). Miller is a solid prospect that is starting to gain serious consideration from schools outside of Pennsylvania. Among the schools making a late push for Miller are Wisconsin and UConn. UConn puts a lot of effort into recruiting players from Pennsylvania and have done a solid job.
