Irsay hints team pursuing impact player who wants paid
Put this in the very unlikely category but could Mike Wallace be re-united with Bruce Arians and not step on the Steelers practice field again?
Speculation is rampant tonight pertaining to the possibility that the Steelers and Indianapolis Colts might be discussing a trade about Wallace.
Colts owner Jim Irsay has triggered the speculation. “SERIOUS TRADE WINDS Swirling! We’re talking given up high pick for SERIOUS Vet/Starter, ” Irsay said.
Irsay’s next comment about his check book being ready leads to two obvious targets in Mike Wallace and Jaguars running Maurice Jones Drew. “Colts Fans..Your GM Mr Grigson isn’t afraid to roll the dice n aggressively improve YOUR Indianapolis Colts..n my check book stands ready! ” Irsay said.
Mike Florio of Profootballtalk.com is among the reputable individuals out there believing Wallace is the likely target of the two but other than Irsay’s tweets, there’s no real evidence that Wallace is the player, despite him making a ton of sense for the Colts.
The Steelers have been getting calls about Wallace for weeks but at least publicly have indicated they won’t entertain any idea of trading Wallace. Team sources are mum right now but Wallace’s camp is not aware of any trade and Wallace would have to sign his tender first to be traded to any team.
With Irsay indicating the team is talking about giving up a high pick, he is likely hinting at a second round pick for whoever the player is.
Wallace becoming a Colt is much more likely to happen in the off-season as a free agent.
Wallace as I wrote a few days ago, makes a lot of sense for the Colts to pursue next year via free agency as the Colts desperately need a big play receiver.
